Kayaking and canoeing fun on the Phipps Lake

Explore over 1200 acres of beautiful Michigan woods and lakes with Tamarack Camps sports and recreation programs. These programs get participants outside playing traditional games, learning new skills and experiencing outdoor recreation.

Archery

4th– 12th Grade

Archery is a fun and exciting sport that is fun for everyone, no matter their athletic ability. Participants learn about the bow and arrows, stance, marksmanship techniques, and of course, the importance of safety. Tamarack Camps’ uses basic recurve bows, perfect for participants of all abilities.

Cabin Call

4th– 12th Grade

Groups get into the camp spirit with this energizing class that has each cabin creating their own identity: cabin name, cabin cheer, cabin rules and more! Tamarack staff facilitate group cohesion and cooperation.

Canoeing

4th– 12th Grade

Newly revised canoeing maximizes a groups’ time on the water. Tamarack facilitators teach basic canoeing skills on land then shove off the group to learn first hand how to work with their partner to accomplish a goal. Once the group gains the necessary skills, Tamarack staff facilitate games on the water for the group! This program is supervised by an American Red Cross certified lifeguard.

Capture the Flag

4th– 12th Grade

This classic camp game is always a favorite! Groups are divided into two teams and use planning, teamwork and strategy to capture the other teams’ flag. Face paint and bandanas get participants immersed in play.

Fishing

4th– 12th Grade

No fishing license is required for this class, where participants learn how to properly look for bait, bait a hook and safely remove a fish from a hook to release back into its home! All equipment is provided.

Hammock Hang Time

4th– 12th Grade

Just like it sounds, this program gives groups an opportunity to “hang” out and relax unlike ever before. Tamarack staff provides the hammock and the skills to hang the hammock, then each participant finds their ideal location and kicks back for an hour of uninterrupted reflection time, or a nap!

Kayaking

4th– 12th Grade

Kayaking allows participants an opportunity to explore Phipps Lake like never before. With extended time in the water, groups are able to learn new skills and play exciting games while being close enough to the water’s surface to drag their hands through. Kayaking is run by an American Red Cross certified lifeguard.

Paddle Boarding

4th– 12th Grade

This new class offers an exciting twist on enjoying beautiful Phipps Lake. Participants stand on paddleboards to navigate around the water. This program is supervised by an American Red Cross certified lifeguard.

Recreational Games

4th– 8th Grade

Leave the portable devices at home! This program brings back to life the immeasurable value of playing outside with friends! Tug of War, Ultimate Frisbee, Camouflage and Freeze Tag are just a sampling of fun be had.

Tamarack Tie-Dye

4th Grade and UP

Create this classic piece of camp attire! Participants receive a white Tamarack Camps shirt to create their masterpiece. Shirt sizes MUST be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to class. Ask about customizing your shirts.

Waterfront

All Ages

Available May through October, the waterfront defines relaxation. Groups can swim, build sand castles, play games or just lay back and rest! This self-paced activity is a great way for groups to interact in an unstructured yet busy environment. All activity at the waterfront will be monitored by one or more of Tamarack Camps’ American Red Cross certified lifeguards.
